World War II pilot, Ensign Sam Gaunt, a carrier fighter pilot is awarded the Navy’s Distinguished Flying Cross medal. Secretly, however, Sam feels that if the truth were known, he could be court-martialed. But that is not all Sam has to worry about. Sam’s life is constantly in danger, not only from the Japanese, but from someone aboard his carrier. Someone who wants him dead. It could be anyone of the enemies Sam has made. It could be his division leader, whose sordid secrets Sam knows. Or maybe it’s another fighter pilot Sam has a rivalry with over a girl. But then, it could be the air group’s leading chief, who has lost a lot of money because of supposed bad advice Sam gave him.
